Sweet Treats Made With Love By Students with Special Needs
Help me give my students new kitchen and baking supplies to inspire them as they learn to independently cook, bake, decorate and run our school Coffee Cart!
My amazing students are in the Functional Skills program at my high school and range in age from 9th-12th grade and Post-High which serves students ages 18-22 with moderate to severe disabilities. My students have varying degrees of disabilities, but they all are learning how to independently prepare simple meals, bake and grocery shop. They all participate in weekly baking lessons for our school Coffee Cart which is how we fundraise for our program by preparing simple cookies, cakes and treats which are sold to our school staff.
All of the students in my program would benefit from having new cooking and baking supplies in order to help them create these sweet treats for our school's awesome staff.
My Project
My students participate in weekly cooking lessons to help them gain independence. Because of their moderate to severe disabilities, my students need extra practice with basic cooking skills and working safely and effectively in the kitchen. We prepare our breakfast and lunch daily and this experience is invaluable in helping my students gain the confidence and skills they need to feel confident in the kitchen. They choose their meals, budget, grocery shop, and then actually make the meals with adult support. In addition to this basic instruction in cooking, my students also work on a Baking Team to help create snacks and treats for our school staff who are all huge supporters of our program.
The requested baking and kitchen supplies will inspire my students to continue preparing Sweet Treats for our school's amazing staff who help support our Life Skills program by purchasing home-made cookies, brownies, customized cakes and other delicious food daily.
My program depends on the money generated from these funds to provide my students with other exciting opportunities like field trips out to lunch at a special restaurant or going to the movies!
