This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The school district I work for has students read books at their level and then take Accelerated Reader (AR) tests. Each book is worth anywhere from half a point to as much as 32 (and higher) points. Students have three goals they have to work towards; percentage correct, book level, and total points.

I am asking for a variety of candy bars in hopes that with these prizes and incentives, students will work hard to meet all three of their goals.

At the end of the quarter, whichever students have met all three goals will get to pick from the XL-sized candy bars, those students who meet two goals will get to pick from the regular-sized variety pack, and so on until all students have a prize. The higher the point percentage, the higher up the pick order they are for their respective level of candy bar. In 3rd quarter, I had a student who had met all three goals and was at 286% of their point goal, so he got to picked first from the variety of prizes. My next highest student with all three goals met was at 260%. My students enjoyed this method of prizes and levels so I am trying for sweet treats for the last quarter we are together in fifth grade.
