This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach ninth grade at a suburban high school in central North Carolina. What is amazing about our community is the wide range of learners our school serves. Our student population is comprised of a variety of cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds and we have a great diversity in learning styles and academic levels. The students at my school are energetic, outgoing, and bring a great attitude to the learning environment. Although we may not be a Title I school, a lot of my students' families are working class so sending their students with snacks or breakfast doesn't happen.
.
We want to be able to be competitive this year and to do that we need some updated equipment. I want the best for my students, please help me provide this for them. We pride ourselves on being the ear, heart, and refuge our students need.
My Project
My students are back from break and hungry as ever. Previously this year I asked for some nutritious snacks to share with my students. I received some but now they are back from break and I am out. They are coming to me for snacks and I have to give them snacks from my own lunch.
You have no idea how many students go home hungry or can't afford lunch at school until you start giving out snacks.
The word gets out that you have the food they need to make it through the day and you become a haven for them. I hate to have to turn them away please help me prevent that.
