Sustainability in the Art Room

My Project

My students love learning about art materials and techniques that aren't typically discussed in the art classroom. I love connecting my topics with others in the school so my students can see that art is everywhere!

Teaching about sustainability is a great way to connect art to other subjects, like science!

Artists are naturally very scrappy and tend to use a lot of found or repurposed materials. Papermaking is a great way to teach about recycling and reusing materials! What the kids love most about it is pulling the paper with the mold and seeing the paper pulp!

Another skill I teach is how to embroider, a skill that is incredibly helpful for increasing the longevity of our belongings! I've fixed many backpacks and clothing, which is a great way to also connect textile artists and sustainability in the art room. Help me give my amazing students the opportunity to engage in sustainable artmaking!
