This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I taught this lesson with 7th graders last year, and it took a couple weeks, but my students loved it! This year, we haven't been able to do as many hands on projects as I would have liked, but I would love to finish the year off with this activity! These students really like hands on activities, and especially after the state test, this would be a great way for them to complete a big activity that they can take home and show their parents.

My goal for the project is for students to put their knowledge of surface area and scale factor to the test by creating a physical model.

I want the students to be able to learn how to design a 3D drawing of a lantern and turn it into a 3D model using the math that they completed. They will even be able to put a little light in the lantern that makes it so it turns on and off. These students are really special and I would love for them to be able to have an activity that could allow my students who are tactile learners to thrive and come out of their shell to potentially help others.
