Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The items being requested will be used to create an organized environment that reduces clutter (storage cabinets, hanging wall organizer) by properly storing supplies, discomfort and stress (Chair, lighting), and supports the students and myself in the ability to relax and feel comfortable enough to deescalate situations (moving sand art, mental health posters, Tibetan singing bowl, diffuser) in a supportive environment when students are seeking to get their mental health needs met. Students often come to me seeking solace, food/snacks, (refrigerator, microwave) and refuge during lunch time because they are not comfortable being around large groups, it produces anxiety and these things will help students decrease anxiety, depressive symptoms, and build coping skills (sensory toys, 3-D pin art board, fidget toys) and options to help them manage their emotions more effectively in the school setting, and create an environment conducive to trust and relationship building. Students will be heard, valued, and provided community resources in this setting.
