Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come to school each day carrying more than just backpacks—they bring big emotions, life experiences, and a strong desire to feel safe, understood, and successful. I work with students who are learning how to manage their feelings, build relationships, and stay engaged in the classroom, and I see every day how capable and resilient they are when given the right support.

This project will help us create calming corners and provide social-emotional resources that directly support students in moments when they need it most.

Items like sensory tools, flexible seating, visual supports, and calming materials will give students safe, appropriate ways to regulate their emotions and refocus on learning. These spaces are not just “break areas”—they are intentional, supportive environments where students can practice coping strategies, build independence, and return to class ready to succeed.

In addition, these resources will strengthen my ability to provide targeted social work support through small groups and individual sessions. Students will have hands-on tools to practice skills like problem-solving, emotional regulation, and positive communication, making these lessons more meaningful and transferable to the classroom.

When students feel calm, supported, and confident, they are better able to learn, connect, and grow. Your support will help create a school environment where every child has access to the tools they need to thrive—both academically and emotionally.
