This is my 3rd year teaching, and every year has been during a global pandemic. We have seen how the stress and anxiety surrounding this unprecedented human experience has affected us all, but more than many know, it has deeply affected our students. My students in my classroom were in kindergarten in 2020. The only school they've ever known has created a stressful environment, with many emotional and behavioral affects.
Many of my students have severe anxiety and emotional needs, like we have never seen in a classroom before.
I hope that the materials in this campaign are funded in order to provide students with the enriching, engaging, and comforting environment that a classroom should be. I want to teach my students that learning can be fun.
My Project
All of these tools will help students emotionally in the classroom. Having taught the last three years of this pandemic, I have seen that students are in need of support with anxiety and fear regarding school. My students have never had a classroom experience outside of the pandemic.
Covid-19 has had lasting emotional effects on our students.
School should be a welcoming environment that supports students emotional needs in order to help them to learn. Culturally representative books will help students to feel like they have a special place in the classroom, and that they belong. Flexible seating will help students feel safe, and secure so that they can focus on their learning. Hands on manipulatives will allow students to engage in hands on learning, as I can add enrichment to their lessons.
I want to show my students that learning can be fun, and that school can be a safe and welcoming environment, regardless of what is happening in the world around them.
