Supporting and Loving our LGBTQ+ Community

Help me give my students PRIDE in themselves and others in the LGBTQ+ community with a Cricut machine we will use to create pride shirts and decor that can be used in Pride month and year round.

My Project

Middle school is a time of great social and emotional stress for many kids. For students that are LGBTQ+, that stress is often magnified tremendously. At our school we strive to create an environment where all students feel comfortable being their true and authentic selves. Several years ago we started the LGBTQ+ Student Alliance - a space where LGBTQ+ students and allies can meet, talk, share and be themselves. Additionally this amazing group of students hopes to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and beyond.

While they engage in this work all year long, the LGBTQ+ Alliance students are ready and excited to go all out for Pride month by decorating the school and educating their peers.

One of their main goals is to create shirts that they, the staff and other students in the school can wear proudly. These shirts will show that at MALES we support and love our LGBTQ+ community. The Cricut machine, shirt press and vinyl will allows us to create shirts that are cost effective and that can be modified depending on the student, the message they want to send and the support they receive at home. Students can use the machine throughout the year to create decor and other materials that can be displayed throughout our school to spread the message of education and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community .

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
