My students in the Music Department are passionate about music and the community that our program has become. Every day I see my students support each other while navigating the hardships they face growing up in an economically disadvantaged community. As I sit here typing this hours after school, my room is still filled with students practicing.
In music, my students find a sense of belonging, community, and purpose.
Our school is 99% students from minority backgrounds and has a very large new comer population. I have seen time and time again how our students performing in our community lifts the spirits of community members. It also has created a space for our students to show those from other communities that we can do anything they can!
This is the first year since 1976 that there has been an orchestra at our school. The district got us going with some instruments, but we are trying to get the accessories to go with them. Your donation will get rosin, shoulder rest, and extra strings for our program. With half of our members being brand new to music we have managed to start playing multiple grade 2 pieces!
Our orchestra students are eager to learn and we are preparing for more to come from middle school next year!
Please help support this wonderful and important program in our city. Music is an amazing way for students to express themselves and to escape with the hardships of growing up in our community.
