My students need bean bag chairs, wobble stools and other seating options to help with sensory and focusing to help them actively participate in the classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in a self-contained classroom in a school in Charlotte, NC. My students are in need of sensory supports to help them succeed to their full potential. They are eager to learn and do their best but they need a few accommodations to make our classroom better suited to their needs!
It is my job as their teacher to give them access to what they need so they are able to learn the way that they are able to.
My Project
My students have a variety of special needs, including Autism and learning disabilities. These items will help their ability to access the curriculum and participate in all learning experiences within the classroom.
The flexible seating options (wobble chairs and beanbags) and sensory noodles will help provide sensory input to help the students to deescalate and stay focused.
My students will benefit from hands-on file folder games and reading games to help support them when working on IEP goals.
My students will benefit from the use of the visual timer. They work best when they know when their work time will be finished (especially when working on a non-preferred task.)
The school we are at was brand new last year and we were given some wonderful items to begin with but need some more storage space for learning tools and student belongings. The Heavy-Duty All-Purpose Storage Unit and Flex-Space Mobile Storage Bin Center will be helpful to organize learning materials and also my students will benefit from divided independent work stations. The furniture would serve multiple purposes. My students work best when there are minimal distractions around them. Theses storage units could help to divide the large classroom into individual areas for each student to work with minimal distractions in their space.
