Our middle school is located in one of the oldest areas of our city. The west side of Columbus has a rich history that predates Columbus becoming the capital. Many of our students are unaware of the important nature of the history of their community. They have much to be proud of and yet, our area does not often receive the recognition that it should. I want my students to begin to see the value of their community and recognize their important role in it.
Much like the area, teens and preteens can often be underestimated.
No one should ever underestimate my students. They are powerful. They have a voice. They are the change we need in this world.
In addition to performing in our music program, my students are also active in other areas of school and our community. Our group, "We Are the Change" works to support our school and community through area cleanups, weekend food distribution, and amplifying student voice.
My Project
Our powerful students have stories to tell. I want to encourage my students to use their voices to share what matters the most to them. We need our next generation of community leaders, advocates, and voters to experience the power of lifting their voices. This new laptop will help students to edit the videos my students shoot that capture the stories of our school and community.
My amazing and innovative students will find a way to amplify the voices and stories that they care about.
