My students need poster boards and art supplies like markers, construction paper, and glue for the annual Enlightenment Carnival in Modern World History class.
The Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment changed our world! My students are excited to share their knowledge at the annual Modern World History Enlightenment Carnival.
As sophomores in Modern World History, the challenge is often to relate our studies to real life.
I often get the question, "Why does history matter?" I love the challenge of answering that question! Or, better yet, challenging the students themselves to answer that question! The Enlightenment Carnival, held each year during first quarter, requires and inspires students to do just that. In fact, the Carnival is open to the public, so they get to tell MANY people why history matters.
My Project
Our high school is limited in resources to spend on projects like the Enlightenment Carnival, so each year's project becomes a product of what parents, myself, and even other teachers are willing to donate. Each student group researches a scientific innovation, idea, or person related to the 17th and 18th century Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment and produces a poster board display. On the day of the Carnival, the group members dress up and try to persuade Carnival-goers that THEIR topic has the most lasting impact on the world.
So, in preparation for the fall of 2012 Enlightenment Carnival, I am asking for donors to fund the basic supplies necessary to this project.
Many of these supplies, like scissors, colored pencils, and markers, will be used year after year. Your generosity will clear financial obstacles that we've encountered in the past and allow my students to answer the question of why history matters in an informed and articulate manner.
