My Students

My students attend a middle school in an area with a high poverty rate. I, therefore, work as hard as I can to make school a safe and exciting learning space for my students.

I love that my students can teach me as much as I can teach them.

All of my students come from different backgrounds and cultures and they find a way to teach me something new everyday. Many of the students look forward to school everyday knowing that it is a safe place where they are loved and cared for by the adults in the building.

My Project

Over the course of the school year, we have discussed with students how to keep their bodies strong and healthy. Students learned about how to read nutritional labels and what nutrients are important for our bodies. Students learned the role that fiber, carbohydrates, fats, and proteins play in keeping our bodies working properly. Students have used their knowledge to talk about their snack and lunch choices.

We want to create care packs for each student that will allow them to take home some healthy snacks for the summer months.

We are asking for snacks that are low in sugar like the granola bars and pretzels. The oatmeal will also give students sustainable energy for active summer days. Snacks like the goldfish and Nutrigrain bars will give students energy and provide them with on-the-go nutrition. We are asking for drawstring bags to pack the snacks in so students can easily bring them from school on the last day. In order to utilize this information we want to provide our students with healthy choices of snacks over the summer. Many of our students struggle to get nutritional meals during the summer due to their low socioeconomic status. We want to instill healthy eating habits among our learners and hope that you will support us in this endeavor.
