My students face daily challenges, constant changes, and feeling misunderstood. My students come to my classroom looking for stability, a safe environment, and embracing creativity. I work at a small school with the majority of students considered low income. Students often move in and out of our school due to family relocation or being involved in Foster Care.
Every child no matter the span of time that I have them or what background they come in with I strive to help them by being an active participant in what they need.
Many of my students have behavioral and learning disorders that provide struggles for them daily. Building long lasting relationships is the most important part of my job. This builds hope and encouragement for students to stay actively engaged in education. My job as a first grade teacher is a stepping stone to them being successful in grades to come. I strive to create a collaborative learning community so they feel comfortable learning and growing together. "Success in a diverse classroom comes from a balance of student self-awareness and community acceptance of others."~Beth Morrow
My Project
Our school is a Title 1 school and many of our families are unable to purchase school supplies for their children. These supplies, while very basic, are a necessity to learning. Many of the supplies are consumables and therefore run out as we work very hard in our classrooms everyday. For this reason I have chosen the most used supplies to put together this project.
Supplies are just materials but what the students create with these supplies is learning that will last a lifetime.
My students work very hard to complete assignments and meet new learning goals every year. I have chosen basic supplies like pencils, markers, crayons, glue, highlighters, erasers, scissors, folders, pencil boxes, and notebooks. Whether it is in the beginning of the year or a new student coming in in the middle of the year these items are needed.
