Help me give my students a great replacement for the items such as utility totes and pencil cases that we had to throw away or move to disposable one-use.
I teach 6th-8th grade students ranging from ages 11-15. I am responsible for covering English Language Arts in the digital learning environment as well as AVID content for all three grade levels. I am primarily the middle school media specialist, so I am always working to add new things to our school library, whether it be a new book or a class pet. My students come to school each day and are greeted with a hug (or virtual high five ~ social distancing style!) and a warm greeting.
My students were reluctant readers at the beginning of the year, but my own love of reading has transformed them into reading machines.
I had 100% participation in our school-wide reading program for my class last year and 99% completion of our goal. I hope to kick off this year and get the kids immersed in reading as quickly as possible.

My students have been through a lot of transition the past year and have adapted very well to all the new protocols in place for COVID19.
I had 100% participation in our school-wide reading program for my class last year, and 99% completion of our goal. I hope to kick off this year and get the kids immersed in reading as quickly as possible. We also need replacements for materials that we had to throw out or replace due to one use rule. We need to replace our supply baskets with plastic items that can be easily sanitized each day.
My Project
It is my goal as media specialist and classroom teacher to bring my students a diverse reading selection and an inviting environment to read in. We are also expanding our library to include books about Native Americans, Refugees, Immigrants, and other cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Our students visit the library daily, and I would like to have some comfortable seating areas for them that are both functional and able to be sanitized. We had a couch/lounge area previously that had to be thrown out due to the inability of the fabric to be cleaned on a daily basis.
