This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My elementary school is a Title I school, and a significant percentage of the students come from single-family homes in public housing. Many of my second graders have experienced trauma, yet their resilience is outstanding! Every day I'm amazed by their curiosity, and I would like to incorporate real world literature to continue to help them grow. I'm also looking for creative ways to help build their collaboration skills. My goal is to help the second graders at my school develop their curiosity and willingness to collaborate.
My Project
These materials will help my students become excited to learn! The students at my school quite often do not come to school with the supplies that they need to be successful. The school supplies will help make sure that they can get the school year started on the right foot. The Scholastics News magazine will allow my students to see that there's more to the world than their neighborhood. The magazines will be used to help build comprehension of non-fiction texts, while expanding their curiosity in the effort to help them become lifelong learners! Please consider helping out the second graders at my elementary school!
