Help me give my students fresh supplies for the new semester! My classroom needs a new pencil sharpener, ink for our printer, new speakers for videos, and bulletin board backgrounds so I can update my bulletin boards.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are not your typical student population. My school is not your typical school. I work at one of the Alternative Education Centers in Pittsburgh. Most of the students who attend our school are taking Credit Recovery courses to work toward their high school diploma.
My students travel from all around the Pittsburgh area, some even taking multiple buses to make it to school.
For some, their travel time is well over an hour. I want to provide my students with tools and materials which will assist them in finishing courses.
My Project
The new semester brings a lot of new students to my classroom as many of our Credit Recovery students will be returning to their home schools. I try to make my classroom to be an inviting place for all students. The new supplies I am requesting will help create that classroom environment.
A few of the supplies I am requesting are to upgrade older supplies that are no longer working properly.
For example, my pencil sharper was a DonorsChoose pencil sharpener from 3 years ago. It has served us well but unfortunately has stopped working. We need more ink for our classroom printer so I am able to get students make up work faster.
I am also requesting speakers because my department has graciously received a Smart TV; however the sound quality isn't great. I would like to utilize this new engaging technology with my students to the fullest extent.
I am also requesting new background fabric for my bulletin boards in order to update my content and help make it last longer.
