Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are mathematicians. They question the world around them, develop new ideas, and are learning how to advocate for themselves. My students are eager to learn, understand, and to create change. With access to the appropriate resources, loving encouragement, and opportunities for engagement, all of my students thrive. When they have the opportunity to engage in 21st Century mathematics learning they are preparing themselves for the bright, successful futures that every single one of them deserve.
Approximately 95% of our school’s students come from low income backgrounds.
90% receive free or reduced lunch. 98% identify as coming from a minority group. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures that need to be celebrated. Our school provides our students with the opportunity to celebrate who they are. We are an innovative turn-around school filled with students that deserve to have all of their dreams at the tips of their fingers. We are a school filled with love. We are strong in our belief that every student has what it takes to succeed. We are committed to helping our students become 100% college and job ready. We are a family.
My Project
As funding for Denver Public Schools continues to decrease, our school finds ourselves having to prioritize which supplies are absolutely necessary for student success. This year, we are struggling with a paper shortage. This affects our students because we are unable to make copies of challenging problems from our curriculum workbooks, send letters home to families, and print important information for our students.
Attending school in a low income community should not mean you don’t have the materials needed to be successful.
Help me provide meaningful resources to my students and give them the supplies they need to succeed. Computer paper will ensure they have the necessary materials to push themselves to even higher levels of achievement.
