This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a reading specialist, I work with struggling readers in first and second grade. Reading does not come easily to many of my students. These students will become good readers, but they need a little help.
We have both academic challenges and significant socioeconomic challenges.
At my school, 100% of our students qualify to receive free or reduced-price lunch which means it is categorized as "highest poverty." All students deserve the same educational opportunities, but my students are at a disadvantage.
I try to give my students quality instruction, quality materials, and a quality learning environment.
My Project
My students need their own supplies - crayons, scissors, and glue - to keep for use at home and at school.
Many of my students do not have their own supplies, and this will make them feel good about being prepared and having what they need each day.
We also need some classroom supplies like stickers and magnets, as well as a few character education posters to both organize and beautify our classroom. We all deserve an organized, pleasant-looking space in which to productively learn and work.
Supplies for home and school will help us to do our important learning.
