My Students

My students are brilliant, motivated children who face a daily battle with physical and cognitive disabilities. Every single one of my students has an IEP or 504 plan, and they never stop pushing themselves, working hard, and advocating for their own needs. They dream of learning the skills necessary to survive in today's fast-paced world.

When asked how it felt to be the smartest man alive, Albert Einstein said, "I don't know, you'll have to ask Nikola Tesla." Tesla, the inventor for countless devices that assist modern day life, was himself, Autistic.

With the proper resources and training, he achieved greatness, and affected all of humankind. I truly believe my students have the same potential.

My students need access to the knowledge and experiences that will enable them to take AP classes in high school, be accepted into top universities, and contribute to the discoveries of the future. With your help, we can acquire the tools and skills necessary to reach those goals.

My Project

I’d like to support my students’ learning in several different ways with this project. I like to utilize technology to give students access to the whiteboard from their desks. We also utilize group work so students can practice the exact skills each student needs without wasting time on concepts they have already mastered. Many of these activities have sound, requiring the use of headphones. Because we work in small groups, we need a headphone splitter to support student's cooperative learning

Math is fun, and the puzzles and games will allow us to practice and reinforce problem-solving skills in an enjoyable and engaging way.

Bringing games to the classroom builds the feeling of community, lets the students practice social skills, while showing them the fun that can be had with math!

The final set of items will support reading and writing in our class. Nothing feels better than a freshly sharpened pencil! These pencil sharpeners are the BEST! In my classroom I offer a variety of accommodations for students such as wiggle seats, and standing desk options, and I realized that my classroom could use some support options for my students with their sensory regulation. The putty, kinetic sand, and workbooks will support students in their social-emotional learning and processing. Binders, notebooks, and post-its will help students organize their materials and manage their assignments. The timers will help manage taking turns at the required stations for each lesson, and the books are specific requests from my students to fill our bare classroom library.
