Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Funding of this grant will provide additional support to the Bridge to Reading curriculum based on the Science of Reading. In leveled groups these materials will allow for focused small group instruction daily for all students. These differentiated groups will increase phonological awareness, phonics knowledge and improve reading fluency.

The teacher-lead level groups will utilize the CVC word building games and activities which will include letter identification, sound reproduction, building words and fluency.

The games and activities will be multisensory, where the hands, body, eyes and mouth are engaged.

The mirrors will be used to assist students in visualizing and creating the correct phonological sounds. I am asking for dry erase boards and alphabet arches that will allow students to practice applying phonics knowledge in different ways.

My educational objective is for students to comprehend what they are reading. First students will build strong phonological awareness. I will use the card holder to display our letter cards in small group lessons.

My students will demonstrate their engagement and understanding in small group participation with an I do, we do, you do model. The students will do weekly word checks to check for understanding of the weekly Bridge to Reading lessons and fluency reading.
