Mr. Noll from Pine Bluff AR is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need an array of scientific gadgetry and building supplies, such as a drill and thermometer, to finish out the year memorably.

Standardized tests- you know, the ones that shape the opinions of the powers that be on the academic abilities of my students- do an excellent job of assessing one's ability to take a multiple choice test. However, our choices in life exist well beyond the options of A, B, C, or even D.
My students are enthusiastic, capable, and desirous learners with a hunger for curiosity that if channeled in the proper ways could produce an influential next generation of scientists in Arkansas.
Unfortunately, for many, their education thus far has fallen woefully short in matching their excitement about the world around them. Similar to most junior high school students, they are the most excited about learning (translating into higher test scores), when this material is put into the context of projects or the world outside our classroom walls.
My experience teaching and learning in the sciences has cemented in my mind the integral role of projects as a central component of the learning process. As such, all the requested resources have been selected as durable, reliable and reusable tools for the science lab for years to come. Specifically, I have requested all the materials necessary to build a water bottle rocket launcher for our unit of study on motion and forces (including a power drill to be used in other applications), an IR thermometer which can be used to detect temperature changes at a distance, as well as several computer accessories (2 external hard drives, headphones, and a wireless mouse) which will allow my students to archive, create, and interact with various forms of electronic multimedia in a more advanced manner than our current practices.
Take the next 5 seconds to recall as best as you can the most memorable experience you have had in a science classroom.
My guess is that memory can be placed into one of only a few narrow categories- experimentation, demonstration, or creation. Very few of us would identify note taking, test taking, or definition copying as a seminal moment in our science education. The supplies you are funding in this project are designed to offer memories and inspiration to our next generation of scientists.
