My students live in an urban city on the smallest of scales. We have all the risks and dangers of the big city without any of the opportunity for worldliness an exposure. Culturally, geographically, and academically, my students are isolated and ill-informed and overly confident. Exposing them to how science is utilized outside our city is an important first step in getting them to start thinking bigger than our small town.
