Help me give my students the supplies to refill their at-home Homework Boxes. If they have the supplies, they will use them for the homework and eLearning days.
My students are the heart of Appalachia: they live in an economically depressed area with a high percentage of drug addictions and/or deaths. They know someone who is the victim--a parent, a sibling, a beloved relative, or their best neighbor. Yet, as they returned to learning after the COVID-19 virus attacked us, first virtually, then blended, and finally to full-time classroom, they still had a smile and the unwavering faith that things would be okay. They have dreams, and they believe in themselves!
The class want to learn and achieve because they recognize the importance of schooling in attaining their goals.
One wants to become an oncologist; another wants to be a diesel mechanic; several want to become teachers; others want to work in the broadcasting. Diverse dreams for diverse learners. Let's help them achieve their goals by replenishing supplies for working at home on our eLearning days.
My Project
Our students find out on Saturday evening if they will be in school or having eLearning courses for the upcoming week. Either way, they have homework in addition to classwork at home. These basic resources will help them as they complete a writing assignment, solve long division, learning basic geometric concepts and measurement, and work on a book review. In addition, many of these supplies can be used as they complete art lessons with our art specialist or work with the Special Educator on mastering basic skills.
The students need basic school supplies to do the work at home, whether for completing a remote assignment or traditional homework.
Students want to learn, and they will complete assignments if they have what they need.
