We have a pretty neat setup in the classroom that allows me to have these instruments out a lot of the time. We are able to quickly decide that playing these instruments might add to our enjoyment of a particular song or activity and start playing. \r\n\r\nI usually have them out when we are working on a song that also requires xylophones and drums. The children have really enjoyed adding them into our playing routines. We always rotate the room (students) around so that they get the opportunity to play each kind of instrument. When we get to the end of class and everyone has already had the opportunity to play everything at least once, many of my students want to go back to the glockenspiels. \r\n\r\nThanks again for giving to our project and helping to insure that our students have these musical instruments. Here at the beginning of the year, we do a lot of focus on steady beat and simple rhythms. The book, Rhythm Rescue by Vicky Weber is perfect for these reviews. We also have fun keeping the steady beat with the cajon. I am still working on keeping an accurate beat with my foot on the side. Right now, it works best to use one hand. The students are amazed that I can use it as a teacher seat at the front of the class and also keep the beat with it. They really enjoyed the book because it gives them a chance to interact with the story and be active listeners. \r\n\r\nThen, the students were able to create there own rhythms using our small wipe off boards. They worked in pairs to create the rhythm and then practice clapping them. Next, we will be assigning Super Powers to those rhythms!! My students have been using the new garden resources to plant seeds, care for young plants, and learn about life cycles, habitats, and what living things need to survive. One of my favorite moments was watching students carefully dig in the soil and proudly tell their classmates what they had learned about roots, sunlight, and water. It turned an ordinary science lesson into a hands-on experience they will always remember.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was priceless. My students' eyes lit up, and they could not wait to get started. Many of them had never planted anything before, so being able to explore, ask questions, and get their hands dirty made learning feel extra special.\r\n\r\nAs we continue, our students will be tracking plant growth, making observations in their science journals, and learning how gardens help both people and wildlife. The cart has also been instrumental in teaching children to support and encourage one another. Students have also shared their prizes during recess and free time activities during the day.\r\n\r\nOur students will continue to enjoy these gifts as they are available. My kiddos love the new clock. Not only does it help them tell time, but it also helps some of them remember counting by 5s. The Post-Its with grid lines are great to create anchor charts on. We sort words every week, and the lines help me write and organize the information neatly. Otherwise, I write terribly! \r\n\r\nOur favorite item from this project is the chair bands. Some of my students have trouble staying at their seats or focusing on work. The bands help them get their wiggles out without distracting the rest of the class.\r\n\r\nAnd, before I forget. The stickers are amazing. With nonfiction reading, students can expand their knowledge about many different topics. My students have enjoyed the books that I have read to them from your donation. \r\n\r\nSometimes, students come to my room to deescalate or get a break from a stressful situation. One option they have when coming to the counseling room is to use a book for calming purposes or entertainment. They have experienced an improved self-esteem and sense of worth knowing that someone cared enough to supply with these gifts. \r\n\r\nYour gift contained a number of calm down devices that have been utilized many times. Several students have been given stress balls that they are able to keep in their book bags and/or desks. I've witnessed how students have been able to deescalate during times of high emotional states as a result of squeezing the squishy stress ball they've been given. We have a first grader that experiences a great deal of anxiety when leaving their mother in the drop off line. When I handed her the stress ball to keep with her, her face lit up. I then explained that a special person donated that ball for students in our school, and she hugged it close to her chest. Her mother explained that she gets it out on the way to school every morning, and she walks confidently into the building each day.\r\n\r\nOur kindergarten students have enjoyed the emotion coloring book. They've been able to practice writing and reading the emotion words and coloring the emotional pictures as well. We've been able to explore how to talk and appropriately share positive and negative emotions with each other. \r\n\r\nAs a teacher of social/emotional guidance lessons, I have found the books to be extremely beneficial. I have connected to books with various situations in our school and lessons in the curriculum.
