Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a low income area that has a great community with lots of support. They work hard for themselves and for their families. Many live in situations where they are in one home with over 4 families living together, yet they come to school every day ready to learn and grow.
Our school does as much as it can to help and assist the families of our students and we strive to make a better future for them to live in.
My Project
My students need tissues for our classroom, as the ones we had have run out. My students can't afford to bring tissues to class and have been asking to go to the bathroom to blow their noses instead, which is a 5-minute journey overall. Our current vacuum cleaner is starting to break, as it can't handle the two carpets we have in the room. We would love a vacuum that can clean the carpets enough that the students could enjoy using them for reading. We would also like one pillowcase cover, for a pillow that doesn't have one, in our reading nook. Finally, our printer is running out of ink. The students have been using it for projects, homework, in-class assignments, and to make copies of notes that they missed. It would be a great loss to our class if we weren't able to use the printer.
