My Students
I teach 6th grade in a high needs, Title I school district. Our school has worked very hard and has won state awards for our growth in the last 2 years.
My students are in need of supplies to support curriculum.
They each have to have their own set of supplies, so no community supplies and no sharing. This year is going to be challenging and nerve-wracking with social distancing and masks. But I have to tell you, when kids have their own supplies and spaces, they feel prepared, confident, and ready for the day.
Over 60% of our students have been affected by some type of trauma in their lives. Many have endured challenges most would fold under, and yet, they strive for academic excellence and love the real world challenges! This year, with a new curriculum, many students have told me that this was the first year they've *ever* read a full book! I want to keep up the momentum and keep them learning.
My Project
Wit and Wisdom, The Writing Revolution, new curriculum requires new supplies! I have a need for more items this year in order to keep student supplies separate for the social distance needed. To keep kids engaged, they'll need new a creative projects and activities to learn.
I'm planning an "All about Me" project where students can create their story and share with peers.
This project will include tech as well as art. I might even get some molding clay for creating a 'mini-me..' like a 'Wilson' in the movie 'Castaway.'
