My students need an audio book station that will be used everyday during Daily 5 to improve literacy. We are asking for 4 CD players and an assortment of books to read.
Our classroom goal will be for every student to reach 200 TSI words. To help my students connect the sound of the word to the TSI word we will be using a listening center. With your help our classroom will be able to set up this much needed listening center and achieve out goal and more.
My 1st grade students come from low-income families.
Most are on free or reduced lunch. While money may be a hardship, they have spirit to give. I like to catch that spirit, nurture and grow that spirit until it blooms. Most of my students take longer to bloom then most, but do so at the same time as overcoming obstacles in their life. With many of my student’s families not knowing how to speak English, let alone read the English language, reading at home is not always an option. Our school encourages a partnership between students, families, and staff where we can all, together, provide a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment where all children have the opportunity to develop into responsible, productive citizens. Poverty and diversity make us stronger, together our student’s bloom into the most brilliant students possible.
My Project
In our class I encourage reading everyday and practice Daily 5. I like my class to have options and currently we have a class library, access to the public library for free eBooks and a word work center. With your help my class can also have a listening center to encourage reading. This will make learning fun for all my students and encourage literacy in the English language. No longer will my students struggle with the pronunciation of a word, but with our new listening center my students will be able to associate the sounds they hear to the written words. This will help my students achieve our goal of 200 TSI words, where many now only know 2 words on average, they are the words 'A' and 'I.' Sadly my students only know them as letters and not as words. With your help they can achieve that goal of 200 words.
Everyday I watch my students grow.
The excitement that shines through, every time they master a word. Every word mastered allows my students to reach the end of that book that they never thought they could read. With your help, as well as mine, my students will succeed and overcome the poverty and illiteracy that is prevalent in their homes and communities. Thank you for your support and donation.
