I decorated it with the book character Klawde the Alien Warlord Cat in a spaceship abducting books. The kids absolutely love it, and it is by far their favorite area to read in. Kids are asking all the time if they can use the area to do their independent reading work, or just to go read when they have extra time in their day. The headphones you provided for our class has allowed students who are reluctant to read the ability to listen to stories they love and enjoy. For me as a teacher the headphones have allowed me to assign things I would normally have to read to students who need support with reading tasks and assignments. I can assign things to them in our TEAMS courses, and they can access on their laptops and be able to independently work as they can hear the directions and supports throughout. They had fun filling out their order form, applying their math skills, and then receiving their order. It was great to be able to allow them to have a choice. It was also fun to play pretend movie theater but with a real concession stand. \r\n\r\nFamilies enjoyed too. As a librarian I listen to student's wants and needs in our library. That means making sure they have access to books they want to check out and read-alikes, meaning books similar to what they love so they can find their next favorite author, series, or genre.\r\n\r\nMost of the new books were chosen to increase our collection of beginning chapter books for kids wanting to move from picture books, graphic novel, etc. into a more traditional text centered chapter book. \r\n\r\nAnother area of our collection that was improved was a selection of book focusing on cultures and inclusion. We are a diverse community, and my students are often asking for books about cultures from around the world, so they can learn more about where their families and friends' families come from. \r\n\r\nIn our library my focus is on building curiosity and excitement around books. We do author/illustrator studies, genre studies, and read about people and events throughout history. This group of kids really struggled to read previously and struggled to find enjoyment in reading because it was once very hard for them.
