I work with an amazing and talented group of second graders. My students are extremely motivated to sing and learn and have a thirst for knowledge. Students come from all walks of life and come together to create a unique group of little learners.
We are a diverse school in an incredible town with a very supportive community.
Our school is a warm, nurturing place where students love to come each day to work together and learn from each other. The goal is to make learning interactive and fun.
My Project
Writer's Workshop is a huge part of our second grade curriculum. I teach children to learn to write like real authors and what better way to celebrate their hard work than to "publish" their books? Children work over the course of several days to several weeks to complete stories about their lives and topics that interest them. We want to use card stock for the covers and laminate our published pieces. This will preserve their work and create second grade keepsakes. These books will be shared in our classroom library throughout the year to showcase each student's hard work. My students will be able to learn how to craft stories during our mini-lessons and learn about one another in sharing their books. They will also better understand the writing process and what goes into publishing a real book. My students need laminating pouches, assorted pencils, colored pens, markers, and card stock to display their hard work! We will use the White-Out to correct mistakes. Our mini-lessons will be displayed on charts throughout the room to highlight our new learning! These serve as great references throughout the year to support children's use of new ideas.
