Super Students Need Scholastic SuperSTEM

My Project

My classroom encompasses a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds, each student having a different life experiences.

My students are inquisitive beings, waiting for the chance to dive deeper into their interests, curiosities, and passions, one of those being a high interest in all aspects of STEM.

However, many of them lack the literacy and personal experiences to make the most of their STEM experiences. About 60% of the students at my school are economically disadvantaged which means many of them come from households with very limited income, and therefore very limited resources and opportunities. Many of them do not have the chance to gain knowledge from the first-hand experiences needed in order to draw upon and apply to their learning, but they definitely have the desire! My goal is to give them the tools they need to not only enhance their literacy skills, but to also provide a connection to science, technology, engineering and mathematics!

The SuperSTEM magazine subscriptions will be a wonderful way for students to connect and explore the aspects of STEM while also reinforcing their language arts skills. They will learn about various cultures and traditions outside of their own, while also learning how the world around them functions, and ultimately how they can play a part in this. They will be inspired and empowered, all while strengthening their reading and writing abilities. These magazines will allow them to not only learn the literacy skills appropriate for their age, but also to gain the knowledge of how to be innovative, productive, and contributing young members of society.
