My Project

My classroom encompasses a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds, each student having a different life experiences.

My students are inquisitive beings, waiting for the chance to dive deeper into their interests, curiosities, and passions.

However, many of them are lacking the adequate resources to explore the world outside of their own local neighborhoods. About 60% of the students at my school are economically disadvantaged which means many of them come from households with very limited income, and therefore very limited resources and opportunities. Many of them do not have the chance to gain knowledge from the first-hand experiences needed in order to draw upon and apply to their learning, but they definitely have the desire! My goal is to give them the tools they need to enhance their literacy and social studies learning journeys!

The Storyworks magazine subscriptions will be a wonderful way for students to connect to current events happening around the world in words they will be able to understand while also reinforcing their language arts skills. They will learn about various cultures and traditions outside of their own, which will help them to be more empathetic and understanding of those who are different than themselves. These magazines will allow them to not only learn the literacy skills appropriate for their age, but also to gain the knowledge of others to become more inclusive, young members of society.
