We are a first grade classroom in a rural Minnesota community. We have a large number of migrant families who are a part of our class in both the fall and spring.
We strive to provide our students with authentic experiences and the best opportunities that we can in a small school.
We have a positive culture that promotes reading and math. But we also have a great emphasis in technology and take pride in the opportunities that we are giving our students to collaborate, create, communicate, and think critically.
Little learners need the opportunity to be creative while working with their hands. My kids LOVE to build and create with a variety of materials. But the materials in our room are old and have many missing pieces.
I want to have more Legos and building manipulatives so students can create open-ended projects and really let their creativity shine.
Kids in school spend so much time learning standards, and I want to give them more opportunities to let their minds work through play. My first graders can use these materials to learn so much without even realizing that they are learning!
