Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a neighborhood school located in a suburban city outside of Washington, DC. The majority of students receive free or reduced-cost lunch and live in neighborhood housing. I teach Science Lab to all students 3-5.
My students are bright, inquisitive, hardworking scientists who are interested in the world around them.
My students walk into the science lab every day full of life, ready to learn, and curious. We start each class with our "I am a Scientist" chant. I want them to know I believe they are all scientists and they can do anything.
My Project
I teach Science Lab to grades K-5. I would like to implement STEM learning into my curriculum. Exposure to science, technology, engineering and math is important in twenty-first century learning as it allows students at elementary grade levels to succeed in higher education.
STEM education is most often presented as an engaging task that asks students to solve a problem.
Creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking are integral to every task.
The requested STEM kits and resources will provide multiple hands-on activities that will foster ingenuity and creativity. Students will be encouraged to experiment and take risks during these learning activities.
