This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is my 33rd year of teaching and in the thirty-three years of teaching, I have seen education and the type of students change. The students I teach today are faced with many obstacles such as poverty and poor living conditions. I try to make each day fun and exciting where my students enjoy coming to school. For some of my student's school is a way to escape from the hardships they face every day.
I want to help my students to be college and career ready.
With limited funds, I do the best with what I have. I have students in my classroom with special needs ranging from vision issues, autism, and Downs syndrome. Being a Title I school I have very few resources to meet the needs of all my students.
My Project
My school district is adopting a new reading program and I will need new center activities to use with my second graders. Since many of my students come to reading class with many weaknesses, these learning centers will allow me to target the areas of concern that hamper them from becoming on level or above level readers.
These centers will allow the students to work as a team to enhance their reading skills.
Peer teaching will help the students become more confident in their ability as they work together in the centers. These centers will allow me to differentiate instruction within my reading groups.
