My Students

I work in the largest and most racially and linguistically diverse elementary school in my city in California. We are a close-knit school community. We are in a high-poverty area, and most students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. My students come from families speaking over 26 different languages. Many of them do not have English language support at home.

In my class, there are various learning styles and academic levels that need to be addressed.

My students come to school each day eager to love to explore and learn new things. They put their best foot forward every day.

My Project

Teachers face many hurdles in the classroom, from keeping students engaged, interested, and encouraging participation. We call these invisible barriers to learning in the classroom. Developing tactics to overcome these barriers is something that we strive for. One such tactic is the use of audiobooks to reinforce the lesson plan.

From audiobooks in language arts to YouTube videos in science, I use various media in class.

This type of media also helps with decoding or word recognition, and in older students, it provides a means to practice listening comprehension of both conversational and formal speech. The wireless speaker will allow me to wirelessly stream audio for the entire class to hear.
