Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach 20 creative, enthusiastic Kindergarteners in a diverse community in San Francisco, California. My class consists of Black and Hispanic students and at least 70% of them are socio-economically disadvantaged. My students come to school hungry to learn, but they also become physically hungry throughout the day which impacts their ability to concentrate and learn in class. My school provides a nutritious lunch everyday, but it is a long time from morning until lunchtime, so many of my student become hungry after their 1st recess.

When I saw a decrease in my students' negative behaviors and an increase of work products and positive moods.

As a result, my students need healthy snacks to remain focused and energized in class.

In addition to providing an opportunity to fill their stomach, I am also able to educate my students about whole body mindfulness and health. My students were able to recognize their own bodies and feelings when they are hungry and learn how to take care of it.

By donating to our project, you will not only help my students charge their bodies and brains with energy, you will help my students learn how to recognize their bodies' needs and how to care for them.
