Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a class of vibrant first graders. Most of my kiddos were born right here in Fresno, and some were born as far away as Syria. Our school is the best place for them to learn and grow. Our school is one of the oldest in the district, very well known by the community since we are in the heart of Fresno near a California State University campus. The principal was a student teacher here when I first began teaching on the campus 24 years ago.

We teach our kids to ROAR and emphasize making good habits that lead to healthy lives.

We all do this every day, helping to create small changes that lead to success in the classroom, on the playground, and at home.

My Project

We have been teaching Coder Club & Robotics after school for two years. Students in grades 5 and 6 stay one hour or more after school to learn and practice their coding skills. This is a super fun time for the students, but it also extends their day which can be tiring.

A small snack can mean a huge energy boost for our students!

All of our students receive free breakfast, morning snack, and lunch. Our children are hungry and love any extra snack we give. After school hours are most important since they are not walking home to get food. And many of our families suffer from food insecurity so snacks are not readily available.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
