My Students
Little students are my favorite. Teaching first grade this year, I love the fact that I can spend the whole school day with the same students. It allows me to get to know each of them personally. In the short amount of time that I have know them, I've learned that one boy has extreme anxiety. Another student's dad passed away last year. Several of my students struggle with speech issues and meet with a speech pathologist. Other students are English Language Learners who need much more guidance.
Despite our differences, we have created our own classroom community.
In building this community, I realize how important it is for my students to sit together and learn how to work, explore, play, hypothesize, cooperate, collaborate, and respect each other. Subsequently, we will learn and grow together and succeed in our class community.
My Project
Without question, students need to learn certain math and reading concepts in first grade that will give them the foundational skills with which they will build upon to become great thinkers and doers.
Concrete materials can withstand all types of weather, similarly if children can have a Concrete understanding of foundational math and reading concepts, they will be able to succeed in all types of situations, regardless of the elements.
For this purpose, I would like to have these excellent math and reading skills folders games that will provide my students with continual practice. With the ability to practice these concepts, students will form a concrete understanding of their application. This is essential for any student to succeed in school and in life.
