Undoubtedly, good readers are those who not only read books often but listen to others read books often, too. When students can hear someone model the appropriate way to read fluently, it helps them to become more fluent. Books can speak volumes to students, not only through the story, the visuals, and the words, but also through the WAY the book is read. When readers read with intonation, rhythm, inflection, cadence, tone, and emphasis, the comprehension of the book is so much more meaningful. I would like to use MP3 players, along with headphones in my classroom this year in order for students to listen to and recognize what makes a good reader. Undoubtedly, this will help build their fluency and make them better readers in the future.
