My class is made up of a young, active, enthusiastic group of kindergartners. They keep me on my toes. They thrive on hands on, engaging, and novel activities. They are a funny, creative, hard working bunch. Due to their high energy, and varied skills, I am constantly looking for ways to incorporate movement and mindfulness activities. They love sign language, yoga, and silly songs and dances. They enrich my life and remind me why I wanted to become a teacher.
Students need choices and movement throughout the day. These flexible seating options will make every day tasks and activities much more enjoyable. Classroom engagement will increase. The Calm down cube will help children when they are struggling and need a place to regroup. My hope is that the children will seek the space out and use it as a tool to help them before they reach the point of having a full blown tantrum. So many of my students have experienced trauma and sometimes the classroom can become overwhelming. Often we don’t know what triggers cause the children to lose control.
