My students need science experiment idea books and materials to conduct science experiments at home.
This project expired on June 3, 2017.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Our class consists of 25 eager second grade students who enjoy learning. We love science and are excited to learn more about our world. We are located in Nebraska and some of my students do not have access to the materials they need to conduct science experiments at home. A goal of mine, as an educator, is for my students to learn not only while in school, but at home as well. I want to help provide my students with the books and materials they need in order to learn science at home.
My class has a "Super Scientist" every week. The Super Scientist is a student in our classroom that takes home a bag full of science books and materials to conduct experiments at home with their families throughout the week. The following week, they choose one of these experiments to share with the class.
My students get to wear a lab coat and goggles as they demonstrate their experiment in front of the class.
They walk us through the experiment step by step showing us their results. They then take questions from the class to further explain their learning.
My current Super Scientist materials are very worn out. The supplies I am requesting will replace the books that have been torn and the materials that are broken. They will provide my students and their families with more up to date materials to conduct modern experiments at home. A few of the materials, such as The Magic School Bus Chemistry lab and the Unofficial Minecraft Lab for Kids, will help spark interest with students that may not otherwise find science exciting.
This project supports our Nebraska science standards by allowing students to ask and conduct investigations that lead to observation and communication of findings. Thank you for your support in bringing these science materials into the hands of my students.
