Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of the students in my class have identified processing deficits which may make it very difficult for them to learn to read. All of my students have begun to use technology to access our remote learning platform this year. They have spent so many hours logging in to access our literacy practice and have become so tech savvy! It is not time to use their technical skills to become better readers while using a differentiated learning platform. I have many years of experience teaching diverse learners within the Chicago Public School system yet continue to get excited as my students learn to use their strengths to improve their reading and writing.
Our school serves low-income students in grades K-8 and provides rigorous academics, exceptional teachers and a safe learning environment.
We are working together to become exceptional remote learners while learning to navigate our digital devices. They are encouraged to become independent learners who are not afraid to make mistakes and are not afraid to ask for help when they need it. My students are working hard to stay engaged and complete their digital learning tasks.
My Project
Reading Plus is an online, adaptive literacy program that helps students become proficient readers by building fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and motivation to read.
My students struggle with basic reading skills and this program will assist the students to overcome these barriers.
Throughout our time of Remote and Hybrid learning, my students have continued to love to be read to and and want to learn to read. This online program will engage my students and make learning fun! The program will allow me to teach to individualized need of my students! The students put forth their best effort and will continue to thrive with online programs.
