My Project

All eight of my students have qualified for the Extended School Year program this year at our Title I school. I teach a self-contained classroom for kindergarten through second-grade students. Here's a sneak peek into the summer plans my staff and I have prepared.

We have a lineup of engaging activities planned throughout the summer.

Week 1 - Camping Week

During this week, we will explore the wonders of the outdoors. Students will participate in camping-themed activities like crafting fireflies, handprint campfires, paper plate owls, and suncatcher lanterns. Each morning will start with a themed read-aloud session. Forest snack mix popcorn, Teddy Grahams, and Cheez-Its will be the tasty treats for snack time.

Week 2 - Fun with Flowers

This week, students will discover the world of flowers through various activities. Crafts like nature suncatchers, painting with dandelions, making lavender playdough, and creating air-dried bean stones. Snack time will be Worms in Dirt trail mix gummy worms, Chex mix, and mini Oreos.

Week 3 - Beach & Shark Week

The final week will be focused on Shark Week. Exciting activities such as jellyfish salt painting, watercolor-painted shells, and creating pet fish. We will wrap up the week by reading "Clark the Shark" and making a craft of his grin. The snack mix will be popcorn, Goldfish crackers, and pretzels.

All the books used during the summer school program will be added to our classroom library for the students to enjoy throughout the year.
