My students need basic supplies such as book bins, word building tiles, chart paper, and other items for the classroom to access the curriculum and succeed.
I will be co-teaching two classrooms of 32 first grade students. As a first year teacher in a new community, I look forward to getting to know all of my students, along with their wants, needs, and goals.
My group is a mix of both special education and typical children.
Some students will need supplies such as finger spacers to learn to appropriately space out their words while writing, or word trackers, which help new readers stay on track and focused in their reading, while others will succeed simply from the book organization of brightly colored bins.
My students will be young first graders, eager to learn, but all at different points in their learning progress. As a new teacher, I need typical classroom supplies to modify and accommodate each student. Teacher resource books such as Common Core literature guides and RTI exercises will also benefit my students by providing me with new ideas for curriculum and coursework.
My Project
The materials I have chosen are crucial in any classroom. With these tools, students will be able to participate in whole group, small group, and individual instruction.
By donating to my project, you will ultimately help to increase my students' academic achievement.
Individual whiteboards are an important aspect of any school day. They are used in math for sharing answers during a whole group lesson. They are also used in reading to jot down thoughts while in a guided group. When it is time for students to grab their whiteboards, a bit of fun is added to the lesson, as they tend to love the break from pencils. The Word Building Tiles Class Set will be used by learners developing phonemic awareness; students will be able to move tiles around to see how one letter can change pat to mat to sat. Tactile learning with manipulatives is a great way to wake up different parts of the brain.
Unifix cubes, clipboards, and pencil grippers are just a couple of items that are helpful for young learners to grow as students. All of the items can and will be used across the curriculum and day, and will be taken care of and loved by first graders for years to come!
