My Project
My first-grade students have fallen in love with Zoey and Sassafras, a magical series that blends science, curiosity, and adventure. We've read the first few books together in class, and it's been incredible to watch their eyes light up as Zoey uses science to solve problems and care for magical creatures. These stories have sparked a passion for reading and discovery in every child.
My students come from an at-risk community where books at home are often scarce.
To keep their momentum going and avoid the "summer slide," I want to send each child home with the next Zoey and Sassafras book to read over the summer. It will be their very own book — a continuation of our shared classroom journey and a meaningful step toward lifelong reading.
Your support will help us give these young readers a story they already know and love, encouraging independence, curiosity, and joy through reading. For these children, one book can be a spark that lasts far beyond the summer.
We need individual copies of the next book in the Zoey and Sassafras series so that every student can take one home for the summer.
Summer can be a time of learning loss, especially for students in under-resourced communities. But it doesn’t have to be. With your help, our students will continue growing as readers, scientists, and thinkers — all with the help of Zoey and her trusty sidekick, Sassafras.
