This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
More than 40% of my students are at risk of dropping out of school. Approximately 50% are economically disadvantaged, 15% are English language learners, and 6% receive special education services. More than 40% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. About 45% of our students are Hispanic and 40% are African American.
These students represent a group of students that are typically underexposed to STEM, STEAM, and other enriching educational experiences, and many lack the resources to gain exposure to these opportunities outside of the school day.
Our students come from very diverse socioeconomic households. These households include everything from traditional family units to foster family homes.
My Project
These deodorants, toothpastes, toothbrushes, and personal hygiene products will be supplied to my students as summer care packages. While most of my students have these basic necessities, many do not and have been supplied with these items at school
These items will help to meet the basic needs of my students during the summer when they may not have access to resources from teachers and other staff members.
This will a continued reminder to not only continue to take care of themselves during the summer but to also remember that they are cared about outside the school schedule.
These items will also help to alleviate the embarrassment that some students feel when asking for these items or being told by a classmate that they need these items.
