This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students face unbelievable challenges daily, poverty, homelessness, hunger, and medical issues to name a few. When a child faces challenges such as poverty, it can be difficult to maintain academic performance. Any person faced with these challenges would struggle but my kids come to school excited and ready to learn everyday. The students in my classroom are some of the brightest, most kind, and resilient kids I have had the pleasure of knowing.

My students come to school everyday ready to learn something new, and are excited when they master a new standard.

These kids have built a community in our classroom that is akin to spending time with family. They take care of each other and are genuinely concerned about how each person in our room is feeling everyday. I am so grateful I have had the opportunity to teach them this year. I learn immeasurably more from them daily than I could ever hope to teach them.

My Project

The supplies in this project will be used to make summer learning packets to send home with each of our students. Our students have been especially affected by the Covid-19 virus. Students in our community do not have access to learning resources at home over the summer. Studies show that if our students continue their learning over the summer they are much more prepared to begin the new year when they return.

These materials will be used to help Math and Reading practice continue through the summer break so that students are more prepared for the new year.

The flash cards and dice will be used to play a variety of Multiplication and Division games that will be sent home for students to keep. Each student will also be able to pick two chapter books to take home and keep for summer reading.
