it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Fractions and Decimals can be challenging to teach and learn, so to make it a little "easier" and a little more engaging, I had my students plan a party where they used fractions and decimals in various fun ways.
Students were grouped into themes based on their interests and needed to plan their party using fractions (budgeting) and decimals (money calculations).
After they finished, the groups with a completed packet of 85% or higher would be the winners of the themed party, and their reward would be used to celebrate the end of the school year.
The supplies such as the pool, sunglasses, and party items in the cart are needed to decorate the classroom for the year-end celebration, which is a reward for accurately completing their fractions and decimals packet. This review packet allowed them to see how fractions and decimals appear in their everyday lives. It worked on reducing fractions or finding equivalent fractions. The decimals worked with money and budgeting. They also learned about sales tax and percentages. The fraction and decimal review packet was the focus lesson, and the supplies in this project are the reward for their success in planning their party using the strategies and methods of fractions and decimals.
Their hard work and effort in planning, working together, and math perseverance will be rewarded through this project.
